    A prefabricated building, informally a prefab, is a building that is manufactured and constructed using prefabrication. It consists of factory-made components or units that are transported and assembled on-site to form the complete building.

    プレハブ工法（プレハブこうほう）は、建築物の一部又は全ての部材をあらかじめ工場で製作し、建築現場で建物として組み立てる建築工法である。近年の建築物には多かれ少なかれ工場で生産された部材が用いられているが、従来の建築工法に比べて工場生産の部材を利用する割合が大きい工法に対して用いられる。『学術用語集 建築学編』では、プレファブ工法またはプレファブリケーション（英: prefabrication）と定められている。 一般に、この工法を用いた建築物は「プレハブ建築」あるいは単に「プレハブ」（英: prefab）と呼ばれ、この工法を用いた住宅は「プレハブ住宅」と呼ばれる。なお、俗称で仮設住宅、バラック、掘っ建て小屋など簡易な建築物の事を工法問わずに「プレハブ」と呼ばれるが、建築用語とは異なる。また、プレハブ工法で建築された住宅でも見た目が簡易でないものに対しては「プレハブ」とは呼ばない。
