definition
  • The U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service mission is working with others to conserve, protect and enhance fish, plants, wildlife, and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people. The Maryland Fishery Resources Office (MFRO), located in Annapolis, coordinates fish tagging programs in cooperation with federal and state agencies along the eastern seaboard. The Cooperative Tagging Program has provided critical information for striped bass restoration, and will likely be as important to sturgeon, shad, and horseshoe crab conservation. Information from these tagging programs can be used to monitor the status of stocks, restore fish populations, and set seasons on harvest.
