  • The University Paul Valery falls indeed in one of the oldest academic traditions in Europe. The University of Montpellier, founded October 26, 1289 by a Bull of Pope Nicolas IV grouping of Medical Schools, Arts and Law is the third university established in France, after Paris and Toulouse. The teaching of theology (1421) and Science (1809) and pharmacy are added successively and helps it achieve a reputation for excellence never wavered. In 1970, the former faculties form three separate universities. Set in a beautiful campus north of the city, the Faculty of Humanities, Arts, Languages ​​and Social Sciences is the University of Montpellier III. She took the name Paul Valery, in homage to this great writer born in Sète, who was educated at Montpellier.
