The Great Lakes Forestry Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario,
carries out federal forest research and policy development in
Ontario. One of five Canadian Forest Service research
establishments across Canada, they provide the forest sector
with information and leading edge technologies to ensure it
remains competitive, environmentally responsible, and
sustainable.
They play a major role in national programs on climate change,
impacts on forests, forest fires, forestry socio-economics,
biodiversity, forest health monitoring and landscape
management. In addition, they carry out the Model Forest Program
and First Nation Forestry Program in our region.
