- The University of California, Berkeley Department of Integrative Biology (IB)
focuses on structure and function in the evolution of diverse biological
systems: organismal morphology and physiology, development, genetics, animal
behavior, biomechanics, ecology, systematics, extinct life forms and
paleoenvironments, and the evolution of life. They work with animals, plants
and other organisms employing molecular and organismal approaches to questions
of biological organization and diversity. Their work spans the levels of the
biological hierarchy from molecules to ecosystems. The research of several of
our faculty and the content of many of our courses deal specifically with the
origins and biology of humans and our relationship to other life forms on this
planet.
