definition
  • Graduated with honors in 2000 at the University of Pisa, under the supervision of Prof. Marroni, I have continued working with Marroni’s group as PhD student, starting a cooperation with Prof. Casey Moore of the University of California at Santa Cruz, U.S.A.. Starting from the PhD research, my activity is focused mainly on fluid-induced deformation during accretion at shallow levels in fossil accretionary prisms, focusing on the role of overpressured fluid migration in the mechanical state of accretionary thrusts both along the basal décollement and the out-of-sequence thrusts. Mass and fluid flow in the subduction channel are investigated also with the specific goal of understanding their influence in promoting seismic slip. This effort has required an understanding of the interaction among mechanical, structural, hydraulic and chemical properties of rocks undergoing low-temperature deformation, which I have been able to achieve thanks to tight collaborations with Italian, American and Japanese researchers from different disciplines. The studied on land examples span from the Northern Apennines of Italy, to the Alpine sector of the Corsica Island (France), the Franciscan Complex of California and the Kodiak Accretionary Complex of Alaska.
