definition
  • The World Data Center for Geophysics, Beijing, is one of major promoter to push Chinese geo-data organizations to join WDC system. The Center was supported by The Ministry of Science and Technology and Chinese Academy of Sciences, and was relying on The Institute of Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The institute was founded in 1950, based on the department of geomagnetism of the Institute of Physics, former Central Academy of Science. The institute was the one of the major founder of modern Chinese geophysics, including geophysics, atmospheric physics, space physics and spaceflight. In 1999, The Institute of Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences and The Institute of Geology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, were combined into a new institute, that is The Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Now The World Data Center for Geophysics, Beijing, is relying on the new institute. With the support of the institute, CAS and Ministry of Science and Technology, an internet web system has been completed. ¡¡Through more than 19 years efforts, our center colleted huge amount scientific data, such as geomagnetic data, gravity data, geoelectric field data and seismic wave data. Some systematic data were collected, reorganized by WDC for Geophysics. In last 15 years, more than 380 users and user units from the fields of science, education, government, and industrial enterprises obtained and utilized the data. ¡¡WDC for Geophysics, Beijing established close collaborations with other Chinese Data center, such as WDC for Space Science, WDC for Astronomy, WDC for Meteorology, and WDC for Seismology. WDC for Geophysics, Beijing also has a good relationship with other international WDC centers, keeping exchange in data and technique. Summary provided by http://gp.wdc.cn/wdc/english/cnIndex.htm
