The photosynthetron consists of 10 arms (A-J) in a radial
arrangement around a high intensity 250 Watt lamp. Each arm can
hold 12 50ml screw-top culture bottles, and is temperature
controlled with water flowing through from a water bath. The
bottles shade each other so there is a gradient of light
irradiance ranging from 37.5 x 1015 quanta/sec/cm2 in bottle #1
to 0.78 x 1015 quanta/sec/cm2 in bottle #12.
