definition
  • The Maine Sea Grant receives funding from the University of Maine and from the U.S. Department of Commerce, through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The mission of Maine Sea Grant is to play a leadership role in marine science and education and to promote their use in the sustainable development, management, and stewardship of marine and coastal resources. There are many volunteer opportunities available through the program (see "http://www.seagrant.umaine.edu/extension/ecohealth/volunteer.htm"). Maine Sea Grant collaborates with communities to address problems and respond to opportunities in three major areas: ecosystem health, coastal communities, aquaculture, and fisheries. A more detailed description of Maine Sea Grant's programs is included in the strategic plan for 2006-2010, developed with guidance from the Policy Advisory Committee.
