- The former Faculty of Earth Sciences has merged with the Faculty of Biology and
the Institute of Environmental Sciences to a new Faculty Earth and Life
Sciences. Earth Sciences are a relatively small entity in this new faculty,
housing some 200 employees and 250 students. It is one of only few faculties in
the Netherlands that offer education in the field of Earth Sciences and
Environmental Sciences. Both research and education focuses on observation of
Earth scientific phenomena and interdisciplinary study of the processes leading
to these phenomena. Cooperation between departments or with other faculties is
characteristic for the faculty.
The research carried out at the Faculty is based in three scientific themes:
-Lithosphere and basins
-Surface processes
-Geo/biosphere
