- The California Habitat Conservation Planning Branch consists of three programs:
The Conservation Planning Program promotes, coordinates, and provides, policy
guidance on the creation and implementation of large-scale, multispecies,
habitat conservation plans. This includes Natural Community Conservation
Planning, habitat acquisition, mitigation/conservation banking, and Federal
conservation plan coordination.
The CESA/CEQA Permitting Program coordinates the Department's review of
environmental documents under the California Environmental Quality Act and the
issuance of endangered species take permits allowed under the California
Endangered Species Act.
The third program, Species Conservation and Recovery Program, coordinates
listing and recovery efforts for the State's endangered, threatened, and rare
plants and animals and compiles and distributes biological and status
information on threatened and endangered species, species of special concern,
and other native wildlife. Also, the program approves Scientific Collecting
Permits and research memorandums of understanding for most plant and animal
species.
