- The USDA Horticultural Crops Research Laboratory is responsible for improvement
of the quality and marketability of horticultural crops (fresh and dried)
produced in the United States, with an emphasis on postharvest issues. A large
component of the program focuses on methyl bromide alternatives for stored
products and quarantine pests influencing domestic and export markets. Methyl
bromide preplant alternatives are also being investigated. Considerable efforts
are aimed at the development of new table/raisin grapes and stone fruit
cultivars. Major commodities include grapes and raisins, stone fruits, citrus,
walnuts and almonds.
