The Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at Harvard
University seeks:
-To provide Harvard undergraduates with an understanding of organisms
and ecosystems sufficient to insure informed participation in society;
-In collaboration with our sister department, to provide biology
concentrators a foundation of biological knowledge that prepares them
for further study and active participation in biological research,
medicine, environmental studies, and other professions;
-Through research, to develop new knowledge in four key areas of
organismic and evolutionary biology:
-Biological Diversity and the History of Life
-the Integrated Biology of Organisms
-the Integration of Molecular and Organismic Evolution
-the Biological Component of Biogeochemistry; and
-To train a new generation of biologists who will expand and improve
this vision of science.
