  • The Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC) operated by the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN), at Columbia University, serves as one of nine Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs) supporting the NASA's Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS). SEDAC's mission is to develop and deliver information products and services that integrate social and natural science data in ways useful for decision making. To this end, SEDAC archives and provides access across scientific disciplines to data relevant to the anthropogenic causes and impacts of global change for use in research, policy making, and education. SEDAC also provides tools and expertise to users who have unique information needs requiring data integration or manipulation. Data available through SEDAC are focused in the following categories: population dynamics; social and political structures and institutions; human and environmental health; economic activity; human attitudes, preferences, and behavior; land use; agriculture; and industry.
