- The mission of the USDA Corn Insects and Crop Genetics Research Unit is to
develop an integrated approach for managing and improving corn, soybean and
other cereal crops. To accomplish this the Unit has research projects that
study pests and diseases of these crops, and others working to improve and
maintain germplasm of corn, soybeans, and cereals. The Unit's responsibilities
include maintaining and distributing a soybean stock collection, developing,
maintaining, and making available to the public a soybean and legume genome
database, and conducting the GEM (Germplasm Enhancement of Maize) project.
