- The Department of Oceanography aims to advance knowledge of all facets of the ocean environment, and to use this knowledge for the benefit of people everywhere. Emphasis is on the physical environment in the oceans around southern Africa, but the intention is to use this new knowledge to draw conclusions which are globally relevant.
