definition
  • The Department of Natural Resources at Cornell University began as the Nation's first college of forestry (1898-1903). It evolved into the Department of Forestry (1911-1948) and the Department of Conservation, (1948-1970), before becoming one of 17 departments in the SUNY College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University, in Ithaca, New York. Research in the Department of Natural Resources ranges from basic ecological science, to considerations of policy and economic aspects of resource conservation and management. The multidisciplinary nature of applied work is well evident as a balance of fundamental, basic research on ecological and environmental principles, combined with consideration of application(s) of what we have learned in a broader, applied context.
