- Geographical information systems connect geographical methodology and
computer-assisted information systems. They serve the processing of information
with special consideration space or local purchase of the information. Thus
they put us into the position, spatial distributions, to represent and analyze
entwinement samples and relations.
Research about GIS means argument with the computer-assisted illustration,
modeling and simulation of spatial structures and processes in the broader
sense and in the development from methods to these purposes strictly speaking.
GIS supports tasks of the spatial drawing up the inventory, the environmental
monitoring, the spatial analysis, the space referred prognosis and planning.
Around practical effect to unfold GIS research must argue with the use of
geo-information and geographical information systems in practice and science
and make these the problem-generating analysis article. In the focus of the
task methodology is thus located, besides a solid measure of technology control
is demanded. In the center of the research work of the AG GIS at geographical
Institute of the University of Bonn investigations to geo data infrastructure
and geo-information economy with a strong component of the political
counseling, Spatial Web services (key words are located: Semantic Web,
intelligent space reference services, Ontologien) and the employment of GIS in
the space and environmental planning.
