- The mission of the Nongame and Natural Heritage Program (NNHP)
is to inventory, protect, and enhance nongame wildlife, native
plants, and significant natural communities in Vermont, and to
help people better appreciate these resources. Nongame wildlife
includes wild mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish,
mollusks, crustaceans, insects, and other invertebrates not
normally fished, hunted, or trapped.
Goals:
1. To collect, manage, and disseminate up-to-date information
about rare species and significant natural communities in
support of planning, management, and protection efforts.
2. Create, implement, and evaluate population and habitat
management and protection strategies.
3. To establish educational programs, in partnership with
others, to foster an appreciation of and respect for our natural
resources and an understanding of the need for their protection
and management.
