- The Rhodes University department of Zoology and Entomology is housed in the
Biological Sciences building on Rhodes University's Grahamstown campus. The
Department has eight full-time academic staff who are active in various fields
of research and collectively publish about 30 refereed articles in recognized
journals and books each year. The Department offers undergraduate courses in
Zoology and in Entomology, Honours courses in Zoology, African Vertebrate
Biodiversity, Entomology and Marine Biology and post-graduate studies towards
Masters and Doctoral degrees. Closely associated with the department are
several research groups and Institutes, including the Southern Ocean Group and
the Institute for Water Research, which participate in teaching and in pure and
applied research and which broaden the scope for graduate studies. The
Department also has a close working relationship with the scientific staff of
the Albany Museum (an associated research institute of Rhodes University), the
Department of Ichthyology and Fisheries Science, the J.L.B. Smith Institute of
Ichthyology and the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology.
