The Department of Mines and Energy is responsible for the management
of the Province's mineral and energy resources. The Department
operates under two main program areas: Mineral Resource Management and
Petroleum and Energy Resource Management. The mandate of the
Department is the timely development of projects, acheiving the
highest level of employment for the citizens of Newfoundland and
Labrador, and the greatest range of opportunities for business in our
Province. A key objective is to create integrated mining and energy
industries; and, to maximize Provincial revenues from these resources,
consistent with policies that are fair to developers and which lead to
a continuation of high levels of exploration and development
