Viewing geometry

prefLabel
  • Viewing Geometry
definition
  • The properties of the sensor which affect the image geometry, including the sensor scan angle, instantaneous field of view (IFOV), and internal distortions. The sensor scan angle is the angle between the sensor view vector and the downward pointing (to nadir) axis. Data with very large scan angles generally are greatly distorted, and navigation of extremely off-nadir pixels may have large errors. The area detectable on the ground is determined by the IFOV of the sensor, or the angle contained by the minimum area distinguished by the sensor.
