definition
  • WHISPER (Waves of HIgh frequency and Sounder for Probing of Electron density by Relaxation) is one of the five wave instruments present on board each of the four CLUSTER spacecraft. It measures, in the 2 - 80 kHz range, the electric field fluctuations issued from distant or local sources. By operating a relaxation sounder, an active radio technique, the frequency position of the plasma resonance is identified, leading to the reliable measurement of the absolute density of the total electron population.
