Faraday cup

prefLabel
  • Faraday Cup
definition
  • An instrument consisting of an electrode from which electrical current is measured while a charged particle beam (electrons or ions) impinges on it. Used to determine energy spectrum and sometimes ion composition of the impinging particles.

Abstract from DBPedia
A Faraday cup is a metal (conductive) cup designed to catch charged particles in vacuum. The resulting current can be measured and used to determine the number of ions or electrons hitting the cup. The Faraday cup was named after Michael Faraday who first theorized ions around 1830. Examples of devices which use Faraday cups include space probes (Voyager 1, & 2, Parker Solar Probe, etc.) and mass spectrometers.

    ファラデーカップ (Faraday cup) は、金属製(導電性)のカップで、帯電した粒子を真空中で捕捉する装置である。荷電粒子や電子を検出する時に使用される。 ファラデーカップは1830年、イオンについて理論づけたマイケル・ファラデーに因んで名づけられた。 宇宙探査機などに搭載されている。
